Education Pathways to Peace in Mindanao program, with support from the Australian Government, handed over various information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) on 17 April 2024 to support the MBHTE’s Bawat Bata sa Bangsamoro, Bumabasa at Bumibilang, or 5Bs, program.

Pathways’ implementing partner, Islamic Relief, handed over 10 roll-up standees, 100 brochures, and six (6) USBs to the MBHTE Directorate for Basic Education. Islamic Relief has distributed over 900 IEC items, including 20 brochures, two (2) standees, and USBs, across 30 targeted schools and 11 school division offices in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

“We are resolute in our commitment to pursuing learning recovery measures in the BARMM, ensuring that no learner is left behind,” DG Salik said. “These materials will be part of our strategy to fully implement the 5Bs program, bridge learning gaps, and empower our students to succeed in their educational journey. We are thankful to the Australian government and the Pathways program for their continued support.”

The 5Bs program, a crucial component of the Learning Recovery Program, is a beacon of hope — aiming to address the learning loss among students in BARMM caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It strives to form the necessary foundations in literacy and numeracy, meet the grade level curriculum competency standards that Bangsamoro learners need to learn, and develop skills for everyday life, thereby transforming their learning journey.

In addition to the 5Bs Program, Pathways and Islamic Relief implemented a Home and Community Learning support strategy to enhance educational access and effectiveness under the current challenges. This strategy aims to extend educational support directly to students’ homes and local communities, ensuring that learning continues outside the traditional classroom setting and reaches every child in need.

MBHTE and Pathways, with the unwavering support of the Australian Government, designed these initiatives to cater to every child in the Bangsamoro region, aiming to bolster their literacy and numeracy skills. This support from Australia serves as a testament to its steadfast commitment to improve K-3 education in the BARMM, inspiring confidence in our collective efforts.
